Making friends at university can be daunting, and it may take some time to feel like you truly ‘fit in’.

I am very lucky to have made a fantastic group of friends throughout my degree, but I didn’t immediately meet all the friends that I have today. It wasn’t until the first day of second year, when I was running late to class and sat in the only seat available, that I met one of my closest friends. I introduced myself and, as it turned out, she lived just down the road from me!

Everyone is a little nervous when they start Law School, but don’t be shy! Introduce yourself to other students, your lecturers and even the person behind you in line at Benito's! Introducing yourself to others is the quickest way to meet new people. I still remember many of my friends introducing themselves to me in the first week! It is challenging but you just have to put yourself out there. Mix it up, sit next to different people in each lecture, socialise during lecture breaks as well as before and after class. You never know, a new friend could be one 'hello' away!

A great way to feel part of the Notre Dame community, and connect with likeminded people, is to join a club or society. Becoming involved in student politics not only looks fantastic on a resume, but can also be a great networking opportunity; and you might even make a few friends along the way! Embracing campus culture and attending social events is an important part any university experience. Everyone needs to let their hair down once in a while!

The NDSLS has some fantastic events planned for this semester which may be the perfect opportunity for you to find a new friend.

Start of Semester Meet & Greet
